Questions and answers about our program:
Do you bill my insurance?
Intake and monthly fees for the Menu for Change program are not billed to insurance. Follow-up visits with Dr. Baumgaertel and Dr. Baum are billed to your insurance. On rare occasions insurance plans may cover part or all of a weight management program. It is up to you to check with your individual plan details and submit a bill for potential reimbursement.
Can I try the program out for a month to see if I like it?
Because change takes time and commitment, the minimum enrollment time is six months.
How long are the visits?
The three initial intake visits are one-hour each. Follow-up visits are 30 minutes, or as determined by you and the core team. Note: follow-up visits with Dr. Baumgaertel and Dr. Baum are billed to your insurance as usual. Follow-up visits with Carrie Dennett are covered in the program fees.
Do I have to come in every week?
This program is tailored to each individual. Some want to come in weekly, others want to come in less often. Even others prefer connecting via telephone or email (MyChart). It is up to you and the core team to establish a frequency and routine that will optimize success.
Do I have to weigh-in at every visit?
We do track weight weekly, though you do have the option to “blind weigh.”
Are there any meal replacements or supplements in the program?
There are no meal replacements or promotion of supplements.
Can I stay in the program past one year?
This program is designed to continue past the one year point, even going into second or third year phases as desired.
Will you communicate with my other doctors?
Dr. Baumgaertel will maintain a close connection with your other health care providers throughout the program. This is important to making sure you are set up for success.
Do you guarantee weight loss?
Weight loss is not guaranteed. This program centers on improved health and wellness, with a focus on better weight management.
Where do I park?
Parking is available in several locations: Madison Center garage (underneath the building), Marion Street garage (just south of the building), and in surface city street spots.
Can I take care of other medical concerns at my visits?
After your first intake visit with Dr. Baumgaertel, your follow-up visits are billed to insurance as usual. You can address other medical concerns at those appointments, although you may also be referred back to your primary care physician. The other core team members do not address urgent medical concerns, but communicate closely with Dr. Baumgaertel to make sure your needs are met.
Can I still do this program if I have other active medical problems?
Yes! This program embraces your overall health picture and strives to improve many aspects of managing your other medical conditions (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.) in the context of addressing your weight.
Do I have to join a gym or health club?
No. Our team will work with you to determine the best way to improve your daily exercise and activity level. This may include referrals to a gym or personal trainer, as well as recommended exercises that you can do at home.
How do I involve my family and/or friends?
We will make sure to identify your support system and work closely together based on your individual needs.
Can I change to Dr. Baumgaertel as my PCP (Primary Care Physician)?
Dr. Baumgaertel’s private Internal Medicine practice is open, but all patients are required to join the Partnership in Health program ($35 monthly fee).
